Dear Professional Colleagues,

“The beginning is the most important part of the work.” – Plato.

We, Chartered Accountants, know very well that ‘well begun is half done’. To that end, I take this opportunity to wish a very Happy New Year and a joyous and prosperous 2022 to everyone. I am sure that we all look forward to moving ahead and making progress in the New Year.

The New Year reminds us that it is never too late to start afresh. To keep the momentum moving WIRC continuously provides multiple opportunities for growth and progress of the profession and in the profession.

ICAI Convocation Ceremony

After two years we organized the ICAI Convocation Ceremony in physical format at the Shanmukhananda auditorium in Mumbai over 2 days. Chief Guests included CA. Nihar Niranjan Jambusaria, President ICAI; CA. H.K. Agarwal, MD, Grasim Industries Ltd.;
CA. Ranganathan Subramanian, President & CFO, Edelweiss Financial Services and Shri Uday Samant, Minister of Higher & Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra. This much awaited Convocation Ceremony which felicitated and welcomed newly qualified members to the profession in the presence of distinguished dignitaries was made memorable by the presence of the newly minted members’ families. I welcome the new members and look forward to them carrying the ICAI flag high in the years to come.

Inauguration of Accountancy Museums

WIRC of ICAI is proud to announce the inauguration of multiple accountancy museums in the Region, thus creating a very positive image and awareness of the Profession amongst students and future finance professionals at these educational institutions.

In the last month, Accountancy Museum was inaugurated at the Valia College of Arts, Commerce and Science in Mumbai. Similarly, Pune also saw the inaugurations of accountancy museums in various institutes including Ness Wadia College of Commerce; PDEA's Annasaheb Magar College; Rayat Shikshan Sanstha's S. M. Joshi College; Progressive Education Society's Modern College of Arts, Science and Commerce (Autonomous) and the Marathwada Mitramandal’s College of Commerce (MMCC)

RRC on Cruise

A unique initiative created jointly with Ahmednagar and Nagpur Branches of WIRC, this Residential Refresher Course was conducted on and during a cruise. Covering relevant topics like Opportunities for CAs in Cooperatives, AS for Non-Corporate Entities, etc., this unique RRC with 8 CPE hours combined the best of both worlds, allowing members to gain professional knowledge amidst a relaxing atmosphere.

ICAI International Conference 2022

It is a matter of great pride for WIRC that the ‘ICAI International Conference 2022’ is being held on 21st & 22nd January 2022. I take this opportunity to request all members to sign-up for this event as well as invite relevant finance professionals to register for this landmark event. The Conference titled ‘Accountants Creating a Digital and Sustainable Economy’, will dwell deeper on various issues and challenges faced by the profession, especially the importance of digitization.

Qatar – Career Destination

Owing to the rigorous education, learning culture and wide experience fostered by our alma mater, Indian Chartered Accountants are in demand across the world. To open up a whole new world of opportunities for our members, WIRC of ICAI hosted this event along with International Affairs Committee of the ICAI. CA. Nihar N. Jambusaria, President ICAI gave the keynote address at this event where members of the Doha Chapter of ICAI in conjunction with the Qatar Financial Centre and AKSAA Qatar outlined various opportunities which could be accessed by WIRC members. We look forward to organizing similar events and create more international prospects for our members in the near future.

Joint Program with Branches

Involvement of Branches and interaction across the Region is essential for Regional growth. To that end, WIRC creating and organised joint programmes with the Nagpur, Ahmednagar, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and Akola Branches. This widespread initiative successfully involved Branches from across the Maharashtra and Gujarat and brought them onto a common platform, succeeding in creating stronger intra-regional networks.

I sincerely believe in the saying ‘Rise up, start afresh, see the bright opportunity in each day’. Let us consciously look for and seize the opportunities in 2022. I once again wish everyone a very Happy New Year and pray for prosperity on the professional and personal front for all our members and students.
