The Western India Regional Council (WIRC of ICAI) which is located at Mumbai is the largest Regional Council of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India amongst the five Regional Councils, catering to the membership of more than 85,000 Chartered Accountants and about 2,25,000 CA students, spread the across the Network of 31 branches in the three states of Maharashtra, Gujarat Goa and the Union Territories of Daman, Diu and Nagar Haveli. These CA members are either in practice or in business or holding eminent positions in various industries as well as government organizations spread across the region.
The WIRC of ICAI, recognizing its role and responsibilities has been instrumental in providing continuous professional education to its CA members and students by organizing various seminars, workshops, lecture meetings covering diverse areas of professional interest, and contemporary relevance across the region. It also makes representations on the practice of various laws through central committees or directly to the respective offices of State Governments of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa. It also organizes various programmes for the benefit of the public at large.
As a result of its consistently stupendous performance, year after year, WIRC of ICAI has bagged a number of ICAI awards, and more particularly the coveted “Best Regional Council Award” consecutively during the last six years.
In addition to these accolades, WIRC has also been widely recognized as “the Bell Wether” entity, mainly in terms of the plethora of unique initiatives and activities being undertaken on a regular basis under the umbrella of a mission statement or a theme, that is promulgated at beginning of each year.
The mission statement or theme for the current year is “Empowering excellence” which denotes two powerful words that is cornerstone of all successful ventures, both professionally and socially. In line with this theme, beginning this year, we at WIRC, have embarked upon task of strengthening the process of capacity buildings of the CA members and CA firms by pushing the boundaries to identify and unlock new opportunities that this will enable the Indian CAs to make Global forays.
Further, In terms of empowering the CA members to keep abreast with the latest changes, WIRC organizes various Refresher Courses, prominent among them is the time tested “Direct Taxes Refresher Courses”(DTRC), which is the flagship programme organized over five weekends. This year too, it was no different, with DTRC being launched with aplomb. The sessions outlined and renowned faculties invited to address the participants are impeccable. This will immensely benefit the participants.
The WIRC of ICAI organizes its Regional Conference every year, It is the most awaited mega event by all the Chartered Accountants across the Western Region. This year, too, the Regional Conference, is being scheduled on Saturday, 17th July & Sunday 18th July, 2015, 2013 at Bombay Exhibition Ground, Goregaon (E), Mumbai, Based on the success of organising the Regional Conference in the “multitrack format” during the last three years, we have continued the same, this year too, with technical sessions simultaneously in three tracks, viz; knowledge track, finance track and technology track, The participants can thus exercise their option of attending the technical sessions in the respective track as per their choice and interest. In the sessions of these tracks, the doyens of the CA professions and experts from the industry will be addressing the participants on various matters of professional interest and contemporary relevance, which is the considered the need of the hour. It is expected that more than 2000 members from across Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa will attending this Regional conference.
The WIRC of ICAI also publishes a monthly newsletter for the benefit of the members, wherein all information relating forthcoming programmes, study circle meetings, Law Updates, Event highlights for the benefit of students are published. It also includes matters relating to Corporate laws, Direct and indirect laws, SEBI guidelines being published regularly.
Students Education Courses are also organized regularly for the benefit of CA students. In order to attract new entrants into the CA learning programmes, WIRC regularly career counselling programmes in high schools and junior colleges through the Western Region.
In so far as Research activities relating to Finance and Accounts domain, WIRC always has been in the forefront in supporting such research activities either directly or by supplementing the efforts of ICAI.
WIRC also brings out some unique and eye catching publications. The dominant and most popular among them, being the “WIRC Reference Manual”, which is thoroughly revised every year, as a result of the painstaking efforts of a dedicated group of CA members. This prestigious publication encompasses a large canvass comprising of Direct and Indirect tax laws, Corporate and allied laws and other important information which acts a ready recknor .
